Frailty increases their risk for:

  • Weight loss
  • Skin breakdown
  • Falls
  • Acute illnesses
  • Rehospitalizations
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Decline in ADL ability

We want to prevent all of these outcomes although we know that they are often unavoidable when the patient is frail. They all cause pain and suffering for the patient and set the stage for unhappy families, health department complaints and lawsuits – some legitimate – most frivolous. Measuring frailty and Identifying the degree of risk for these outcomes allows clinicians to get out front.
